Researchers from the department of “chemistry and process engineering of composite materials” at the University of Göttingen developed a foam-like material produced from granulated popcorn. The novel process allows you to 3D-mold the material in any shape, thuss making it interesting for the design and packaging industry. In addition, the popcorn material has good isolation properties, similar to styrofoam and also water-repellent properties, which opens up new ways for future applications. The plant-based packaging is made from the inedible by-products of Cornflakes production and biodegrades without any residue.
