Dupe is a mini manufacturing plant developed by Melburn based designer Peter Timble. Dupe converts urine, bacteria and sand into sandstone objects, explains Enza Moore in an article on frameweb.com. The portable casting unit is made for pouring an urine-bacteria mix into a sand mould. A  biological reaction of the urea and sand turns the form into sandstone and a solid piece of furniture. Trimble’s research into the possibilities of microbial manufacture has led to a biomaterial that produces no greenhouse gases and can be reused as fertilizer. Potential applications include bricks for homes in developing countries and street furniture.
