Hamburg based startup Bracenet collects and upcycles discarded and lost fishing nets. Million tons of these “ghost nets'' are lost or dumped at sea every year, killing millions of marine animals and threatening ecosystems. Bracenet cleans and sorts recovered nets by origin, color and type and then handcrafts them into unique limited edition bracelets, keychains and other accessories. So far Bracenet has upcycled five tons of fishing nets and donated about 185.000 Euro to organizations like Healthy Seas, Sea Shepherd, Pacific Garbage Screening, Shark Allies, Ocean Voyages Institute and Doctors Without Borders. Each Bracenet around a wrist means one piece of “ghost nets'' less in the seas!
