Design graduate Kasey Hou created a toaster that can be assembled and repaired by its owner. The toaster was used as an example to demonstrate the feasibility of self assemblable and repairable consumer products and how such features affect the design and production in general. The toaster and all its components can be flat-packed in a box and each component is replaceable. By assembling the toaster from scratch, the user learns the mechanisms and structure of the device, offering him more confidence to repair the toaster in case it's broken.
