New York based Saba Gray, founder and CEO of sustainable glitter company BioGlitz, began developing BioGlitz in 2014, whilst running the product development department of Manufacture NY, a vertically integrated, sustainably focused, textile and design development hub based in NYC. Saba spent years working with natural ingredients to develop what became an algae-based product that is as beautiful as it is sustainable. BioGlitz offers a sustainable solution for plastic based fashionable glitter. “Our mission is to raise environmental awareness and encourage fearless self expression through spreading sustainable shine.” Saba states on her website. “BioGlitz is comprised of a plant based formula derived from the pulp fibers of eucalyptus trees. The trees used to create our biodegradable film are all sourced from The Forest Stewardship Council Certified suppliers.” According to her website the TÜV Austria certification guarantees biodegradation in a natural freshwater environment. The glitter is said to be non toxic for animals, verified Micro plastic Free and made from ethically and Sustainably Sourced Raw Materials. In addition Bioglitz is GMO free which means that it’s safe for your face and body and it’s FDA approved for cosmetic biodegradable glitter as well.
